🛒 Redlands leaders are debating what role the city should play in addressing food insecurity. During a lengthy City Council discussion May 5, officials weighed whether Redlands should invest in grants, staffing and transportation assistance or focus on improving coordination among existing community organizations.

The discussion comes amid new CalFresh eligibility limits and uncertainty surrounding CalFood funding, both of which could increase pressure on local nonprofits and food banks.

City leaders debated whether Redlands should fund food assistance directly or focus on coordinating nonprofits as state and federal food programs face continued uncertainty, funding reductions and tighter eligibility rules.

🚛 Warehouse ban proposal includes new concessions for existing warehouses. Revised language for a proposed citywide ban on new distribution warehouses is headed to the Redlands Planning Commission on Tuesday. Redlands parents race to fund research for daughter’s rare genetic condition

On a sunny spring day in Redlands, 8-year-old Eleanor Harrell laughs at bubbles in her backyard. These are the simple moments her parents are working urgently to protect.

Born with a rare genetic condition called Kleefstra syndrome, Eleanor’s future is uncertain.

Now her family is raising money for genetic research through a community benefit concert on May 22 featuring the Kalama Brothers at the University of Redlands.

SPORTS

🏌️‍♂️ Redlands High School’s boys golf team won the Citrus Belt League title with nine wins and one loss in dual 18-hole matches, and three of its players earned a trip to the CIF Southern Section individual championship tournament. Meanwhile, Redlands East Valley sophomore Jack Prendergast posted a 3-over-par 73 on April 30 to earn medalist honors at the CBL finals. Read more here:

🏃‍♀️ Redlands East Valley freshman Savannah Morris won three events at the Citrus Belt League track and field finals. Morris was one of seven athletes from REV, Redlands High and Citrus Valley who won an event. Read more here.

🥎 Yucaipa capped a perfect 10-0 run through the Citrus Belt League with a 23-0 win over Redlands, finishing off its league title in dominant fashion and stretching its winning streak to 13 games. Beaumont secured second place with a 2-0 win over Redlands East Valley, while REV and Citrus Valley tied for third. Now the top four CBL teams turn their attention to the CIF Southern Section playoff pairings. Read more here.

⚾️ Cajon High School of San Bernardino won its first Citrus Belt League baseball title since 2015 with a 9-0 shutout of Citrus Valley on the final day of the regular season. Meanwhile, Yucaipa High School won its last nine games in a row, capped by a 14-4 victory over Redlands High to take second place. CVHS dropped to third place. Read more here.
