Redlands area preps win seven events at Citrus Belt League track finals

The University of Redlands softball team continues unabated in its effort to return to the NCAA Division III national tournament in 2026.
The Lady Bulldogs will host Friday’s first round of play in the double-elimination Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament with a 35-4 record, including a 20-1 mark in conference play.
Redlands is ranked No. 5 in Division III by the D3 Coaches Association and No. 4 in Region 10 in an NCAA poll as it hosts No. 4 seed Whittier at 3:30 p.m. No. 2 seed Chapman plays No. 3 seed La Verne at 1 p.m. Friday.
Winner’s and loser’s bracket games are Saturday at the University of Redlands, with the championship game set for Sunday at noon.
The Lady Bulldogs are riding a 25-game winning streak, and head coach Jose Ortega achieved his 200th career win in a shutout of Pomona-Pitzer on May 2.
Pitcher-utility player Katelyn Gandara leads the team in hitting at .452 with 13 doubles and 42 runs batted in. Jenay Scott is hitting .441 with 52 hits and 26 RBIs. Brooklyn Bard is batting .393 with 48 hits, 42 runs scored and 36 steals. Former Redlands High player Maya Holshoe is hitting .356 with 28 RBIs.
Gandara is 17-1 in the circle with a 2.06 earned run average and three shutouts in 23 starts covering 115 innings. Caitlynn Griffith is a robust 9-0 in 19 appearances over 50 innings with 50 strikeouts and a microscopic 0.98 ERA, allowing only seven earned runs, mostly in relief.
Defensively, Redlands has a combined .963 fielding percentage with only 41 errors in 1,117 chances to date.
Meanwhile, the Bulldogs baseball team begins play in the SCIAC tournament Thursday at 3 p.m. against Pomona-Pitzer.
Redlands is the No. 3 seed.
Nate Miller leads the Bulldogs, who are 21-18 overall and 15-9 in SCIAC, with a .359 batting average, 52 hits, 41 runs scored, 12 doubles and 11 home runs, which have helped produce 42 RBIs.
Ian Unscheid is hitting .346 with 16 doubles, six home runs and 29 RBIs. Jesse Bullard is batting .310 and leads the team with 15 home runs and 48 RBIs.
Pitcher Joe Godoy has a 4-2 record in 61 innings pitched with 74 strikeouts and a 4.38 earned run average.
As a team, the Bulldogs have a solid defense with a .962 fielding percentage and only 54 errors in 1,416 chances.
