Redlands East Valley freshman Savannah Morris won three events at the Citrus Belt League track and field finals April 30 on her home track.

Morris was one of seven athletes from REV, Redlands High and Citrus Valley who won an event. Four others finished second or third in other events.

It was a tour de force by freshmen and sophomores in the girls division. Ten of the 15 contested events were won by ninth- or 10th-graders. Three events in the boys division were won by ninth- or 10th-graders.

Morris won the 100 meters in 12.31, the 300-meter hurdles in a personal-best 45.27 and the long jump at 16 feet, 10.5 inches, a foot shy of her personal best of 17 feet, 7 inches. Her best 100 time is 12.27.

Sophomore Chanel Daniel of CBL dual meet champion Cajon won the 200 meters in 25.86 and took the 400 meters in 59.28 after helping the Cowgirls win the 4x400-meter relay in 48.72. Cajon won seven of the 15 events in the girls division.

Mia Soto, a ninth-grader at Beaumont High, won the 1,600 meters in a personal-best 5:11.27.

Freshman Alyssa Castaneda of Citrus Valley captured the 800 meters in 2:18.68, her personal best. Castaneda then helped her team finish second in the 4x400 relay, timed in 4:04.67.

Redlands High sophomore Carmen Robles won the shot put at 36 feet, 7.25 inches, just shy of her personal best of 38 feet, 11 inches. Robles took second in the discus at 101 feet, 9 inches, well short of her personal best of 114 feet, 7 inches.

In the boys division, junior Matthew Luna of Redlands High won the long jump with a personal-best leap of 21 feet, 1.25 inches.

REV sophomore Elijah Medina won the boys' 1,600-meter run in 4:18.46, just a second off the CBL finals meet record of 4:17.06 set in 2021 by REV’s Simon Opsahl. Medina’s bid for a distance double fell just short in the 3,200 meters as Ayden Ramirez of Cajon defended his 2025 title with a 9:24.05 clocking, with Medina a close second in 9:24.73.

REV junior De-Meareaye Hopkins won the 110-meter high hurdles in a personal-best 15.13 and took second in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles in 39.83, just off his personal best of 39.79. Kai Johnston of Beaumont won the event in 38.28 and also took the 100 meters in 10.95.

Yoanis Altamirano, a senior from REV, won the boys discus with a personal-best toss of 145 feet, 11 inches. Altamirano was third in the shot put at 42 feet, 11.5 inches, two feet shy of his personal best of 44 feet, 1.5 inches.

Beaumont’s boys, the CBL dual meet champions at 5-0, won seven of the 15 events contested. There was no pole vault event.

The star for the Cougars boys was senior Daryl Williams, who repeated his 2025 victories in the 200 meters in 21.30 and the 400 meters in a personal-best 47.94, just .13 of a second off the CBL finals meet record of 47.81 set by James Redd of Fontana in 1992. Williams also ran a leg on the Cougars’ 4x100-meter relay team that won in 41.67.

In a rare occurrence at meets such as these, triple jumpers from Yucaipa swept the event, led by sophomore Drake Rundles with a 43-foot, 4-inch effort. Jacob Homan was second at 43 feet, 1.75 inches and Kevin Reis was third at 42 feet, 6 inches. Homan, a senior, was second in the high jump and third in the long jump.

The CIF Southern Section preliminary meets will take place May 9, with Division 1 at Trabuco Hills High, Division 2 at Ontario High, Division 3 at Yorba Linda High and Division 4 at Carpinteria High. All division finals will take place at Moorpark High on May 16. The Masters Meet and state qualifier is set for May 23. That meet will include for the first time a new event, the 4x800 relay for boys and girls.

Individual champions at league meets automatically qualify for the section meets. All other participants must meet CIF-SS performance standards.
