🚶Pedestrian Safety Month: New Redlands Police data provide a look at pedestrian collisions and fatalities in Redlands over the past decade. Thirteen pedestrians have been killed since 2022, compared with four during the previous six years, while collisions so far this year have already matched the total for all of 2025. This month, RPD is urging drivers to slow down and watch for people walking.
🚨 Fatal hit-and-run: CHP is searching for the driver who struck and killed 27-year-old Redlands resident Christian Gillespie on westbound I-10 near the SR-210 transition. Investigators are asking anyone with information about the collision to come forward.
🚨 Six students arrested after Citrus Valley High School fight: Police say a confrontation between two groups escalated Tuesday morning after a 14-year-old girl deployed pepper spray. Four girls were arrested on misdemeanor charges, with one also facing a felony. Two boys face infractions.
🏛️ Coming up at City Hall: The Redlands City Council meets Tuesday, with several items on the agenda, including a proposed $13.5 million acquisition of the Step Up In Redlands supportive housing property following the former developer’s default. About 95% of the purchase price would be funded by state and county partners, with the city contributing $700,000 toward the acquisition. The council will also consider more than $120,000 in state grants for the Police Department and a proposal to name the plaza at the new City Hall after former City Attorney Dan McHugh. 🍺 Midnight last call is on hold: Redlands planning commissioners paused a proposal to end alcohol service at midnight citywide, saying they want more crime data, examples from other cities and alternatives before moving forward. Police say downtown bar-related calls spike after midnight, but commissioners questioned whether an earlier cutoff would solve the problem, or simply shift it earlier.

⚕️ What is 7-OH? Healthy East Valley is raising awareness about concentrated products containing 7-hydroxymitragynine, a potent opioid compound associated with the kratom plant. The coalition will discuss potential health risks, growing availability in local stores and possible prevention efforts during a Sept. 18 community meeting.
🎨 From murals to oils: Redlands artist Christine Curry has painted nearly 100 murals in and around the city, including “Hannah’s Wings.” This month, a different side of her work is on display at the Redlands Art Association, featuring oil paintings inspired by portraits, historic buildings and light.
🎾 Free court lights coming to Ford Park: The city is upgrading lighting at the Ford Park tennis courts and replacing the existing payment machines with free push-button controls. Work is expected to continue through Sept. 16, with individual courts closing intermittently during the day.
