Redlands thrash SoCal Eagles, move into 3rd place
A dominant 7-0 win keeps Redlands FC in the playoff hunt with two games remaining
Redlands FC had to settle for their first draw of the season Saturday night on the road against AMSG in a game fueled by a back and forth first half.
Both teams established their attack within the first 10 minutes, which included a couple of corner kicks for AMSG that they couldn’t convert on. It only took until the 16th minute for a goal to be scored though, as Javier Hernandez produced yet again and gave Redlands the 1-0 advantage.
AMSG were clearly not discouraged by the goal however, as they responded quickly to make it 1-1. It was an unusual lapse for Redlands, who typically have taken over games after getting the first goal, and were undefeated coming into this game in that situation.
Unfortunately the downhill momentum continued for Redlands, as they conceded again minutes later after AMSG sent in a cross off the counterattack that resulted in a tap in goal to make it 2-1.
About 10 minutes before halftime though, Redlands were able to re-establish some momentum and Enzo Mauriz capitalized to make it 2-2, and that’s where the game would stand heading into the break.
Despite all of the chaos in the first half, the second proved to be the opposite. Both defenses and keepers did their jobs and made it a scoreless half.
This meant the final whistle blew with the scoreline at 2-2, and Redlands would have to settle for their first draw of the season, and just the second game they’ve dropped points in.
Redlands will now head home for the first time in a long time, as they are set to host Capo FC June 19th at 7 PM.
