REDLANDS, Calif. — Redlands police and firefighters will face off on the softball field later this month as part of a free community celebration featuring live music, children's activities, local vendors and food.

The Redlands Sunrise Rotary Club will host Redlands Family Fun Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, at Coyazo Park, 2016 Domestic Ave.

The centerpiece of the event will be a Public Safety Softball Showdown between the Redlands Police Department and Redlands Fire Department. The friendly competition will help raise money for organizations supporting the city's police and fire personnel.

The first 200 attendees will also receive a free Habit Burger meal with french fries, according to organizers.

Other activities include a free kids zone sponsored by the Optimist Club of Redlands, live patriotic music, local food and artisan vendors, community organizations and tributes recognizing the nation's 250th anniversary.

“This event is about celebrating everything that makes Redlands special—our first responders, our local businesses, our families, and our spirit of service,” Redlands Sunrise Rotary Club President Alicia Gyllenhammer said in a statement.

“We invite everyone to bring a lawn chair, wear their red, white, and blue, and spend the day making memories while supporting our Police and Fire foundations.”

Proceeds from sponsorships, vendors and other fundraising activities will benefit the Redlands Fire Department Benevolent Fund, Redlands Police Foundation, and Redlands Sunrise Rotary Club's youth scholarships and community service programs.

Admission is free.

Attendees are encouraged to park in the designated parking area at Citrus Valley High School. Additional street parking will be available near Coyazo Park where permitted, according to organizers.
