REDLANDS, Calif. — A 16-year-old was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries after a shooting Sunday evening at the Mountain Grove/Citrus Plaza shopping center, and a 17-year-old suspect was taken into custody, according to Redlands police.
The shooting occurred June 28 following an altercation involving a group of individuals, police said. The victim was shot once before the suspect fled on foot.
Officers located the suspect inside the Target store at Citrus Plaza, where he was arrested.
The victim was transported to a hospital and was reported to be in stable condition.
With assistance from the Hemet Police Department's K-9 unit, investigators recovered the firearm believed to have been used in the shooting.
The investigation remains ongoing.
Sunday's shooting occurred less than a week after a juvenile was arrested in connection with a strong-arm robbery inside the Target store at Citrus Plaza. Earlier this month, officers also responded to a fight involving a group of juveniles at the shopping center. Police have not indicated the incidents are related.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the Redlands Police Department at 909-798-7681, ext. 1.
