REDLANDS, Calif. – A juvenile suspect was arrested after allegedly snatching a necklace from a shopper inside a Target store in Redlands, while detectives are also investigating the theft of an Amazon trailer loaded with more than $170,000 in merchandise, according to this week's Redlands Police Department crime update.
The robbery occurred Monday afternoon, June 22, at the Target store in Citrus Plaza.
Police said the suspect grabbed a chain from the victim's neck inside the store before fleeing to a waiting red Ford Focus driven by another suspect. The victim chased the suspect out of the store before the vehicle left the area.
Investigators said they gathered suspect information that led them to a residence in Highland. Officers served a search warrant, recovered the stolen jewelry and arrested the juvenile suspect, who was booked into juvenile hall. Police said the recovered property was returned to its owner.
Amazon theft, stolen vehicle arrest
Police are also investigating the theft of a trailer reported early Monday from an Amazon facility in the 1800 block of Marigold Avenue.
According to the department, the stolen trailer contained more than $170,000 worth of merchandise. No arrests have been announced.
In a separate case, San Bernardino Police arrested a juvenile Thursday, June 18, after a pursuit involving a stolen vehicle. Redlands Police later identified the juvenile as the driver who had evaded officers during a pursuit the previous day.
The suspect was arrested on suspicion of possessing a stolen vehicle and felony evasion.
Arson arrest, DUI collision
Police arrested a 34-year-old man Monday afternoon on suspicion of arson after authorities said he started a large vegetation fire near the north end of California Street at the Santa Ana River wash. The department described the man as transient.
In another incident, a driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after crashing into a fire hydrant and a city utility pole in the 1600 block of West Redlands Boulevard early Saturday morning, June 20.
