REDLANDS, Calif. — A vehicle reported stolen from a Redlands hotel was tracked more than 180 miles to the Mexican border this week, leading to the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of firearms and suspected drug evidence, according to the Redlands Police Department.

The vehicle was reported stolen Monday morning, July 13, from a hotel in the 1700 block of Orange Tree Lane.

Police said Automated License Plate Recognition camera records showed the vehicle traveling through Thermal and Brawley toward the Mexican border. Redlands investigators contacted the Calexico Police Department, which intercepted the vehicle and took two people into custody.

Authorities said officers found two firearms and evidence of drug sales inside the stolen vehicle. Redlands detectives later served a search warrant at the suspects' hotel room in Redlands and recovered additional evidence.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Police investigate unusual alley collision

Police are investigating a collision that left a man seriously injured after determining the driver who ran over him in a dark alley was unaware the collision had occurred.

The investigation began Sunday, July 12, after emergency room staff notified police that a man had arrived with major injuries from a collision that had never been reported.

Surveillance video from a nearby business showed the victim, wearing dark clothing, lying in a darkened alley near Colton Avenue and Orange Street when he was run over by a truck pulling an equipment trailer. Police said the driver continued without stopping, but investigators later determined the driver had not seen the victim and was unaware a collision had occurred. A nearby business discovered the injured man and called an ambulance.
