REDLANDS, Calif. — Two people were arrested after several PlayStation consoles were stolen from a Redlands GameStop and the getaway vehicle was located more than 40 miles away in Victorville, according to the Redlands Police Department.
The theft was reported Monday afternoon, Aug. 31, at the GameStop at 27512 W. Lugonia Ave.
Police said a man entered the store, kicked open a locked cabinet and fled with several PlayStation consoles. He got into a vehicle driven by a woman and left the area.
Surveillance cameras captured the vehicle, and police broadcast a description to neighboring law enforcement agencies. San Bernardino County sheriff's deputies later located the vehicle in Victorville and conducted a traffic stop.
Deputies saw the stolen merchandise inside the vehicle and arrested the driver, police said. One passenger fled on foot and was not located. A second passenger was arrested on suspicion of possession of stolen property.
Police did not say whether the passenger who escaped was believed to be the man who stole the consoles from the store.
Police arrested a man following a reported strong-arm robbery at a gas station in the 200 block of East Redlands Boulevard on Sunday night.
A clerk initially reported that a man struck him as the man and a woman fled the convenience store with stolen beer. Officers located both people nearby and determined the merchandise had not ultimately been stolen, but police said the man struck the employee while attempting to steal it.
The man was arrested. Police did not report an arrest of the woman.
A man wearing a full-face ski mask was arrested early Thursday, Sept. 3, after police received reports that he was approaching people near Brookside Avenue and San Mateo Street.
Police responded shortly after 1 a.m. and said the man ran when officers approached him. He was taken into custody following a foot pursuit and arrested on suspicion of public intoxication.
Redlands police reported four DUI-related arrests between Sunday and Monday, including two crashes on San Timoteo Canyon Road.
Shortly after 1:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 31, a driver was arrested following a single-vehicle rollover crash on San Timoteo Canyon Road. A witness told police the driver threw alcohol containers into a nearby orange grove after the crash. The driver was taken to a hospital for injuries sustained in the collision.
Earlier Monday, police arrested a man on suspicion of DUI after finding him asleep behind the wheel of a vehicle blocking the driveway of a gas station in the 900 block of Orange Street shortly after 12:30 a.m.
On Sunday night, Aug. 30, police responded to a hit-and-run collision at Wabash and East Colton avenues. Police said the victim followed the other vehicle and eventually blocked it after the driver pulled into a parking lot at Grove Street and Sylvan Boulevard. Officers contacted the driver and determined he was driving under the influence, according to police.
Earlier Sunday, a man was arrested on suspicion of DUI after crashing into a power pole on San Timoteo Canyon Road shortly after 1 a.m.
