Pandemic-era federal funding expires Sept. 30
Pandemic-era federal funding for child care centers will expire at the end of the week if Congress does not act. In California, as many as 13,000 centers that care for 84,000 children may close, according to data from the Century Foundation.
Why it matters: San Bernardino County is a child care desert. In other words, there are more children in need of care than spaces are available. When federal funding expires on Sept. 30, the problem is expected to get worse.
