💵 Redlands is preparing another $1.2 million in budget cuts less than three months into the new fiscal year. The reductions are needed after finalized labor agreements added costs beyond what was included in the budget adopted in June. The proposal includes cuts to police and fire overtime, tree trimming, part-time positions and departmental services, while the city is also preparing for another $4.5 million in ongoing reductions beginning in 2029.

This week, we’re publishing our City Council candidate profiles.
Redlands City Council seats for Districts 1, 3 and 5 are up for election on Nov. 3, 2026. The District 3 seat, held by Mayor Mario Saucedo, and the District 5 seat, held by Council Member Paul Barich, are uncontested.
Three candidates are running for the District 1 seat: Denise Davis (Incumbent), Doug Gonzales and Andrew Hoder. We asked each the same questions about why they’re running, their priorities for the city and how they would approach issues including affordable housing, climate change, public safety and development at the local level.
Our profiles bring their answers together with information about each candidate’s background and campaign finances, giving voters a side-by-side look at the people seeking to represent District 1.

At 31 weeks, everything changed for the Davalos family. Laura Davalos had already spent nearly 10 weeks navigating a diagnosis of cervical insufficiency when her water broke unexpectedly. Doctors hoped to give her baby another four weeks to grow, but Grayson arrived the next day.
Weighing just 3 pounds, 7 ounces, Grayson spent nearly a month in Redlands Community Hospital's Level III NICU. Laura and her husband, Miguel, say the medical team helped their premature son grow strong enough to go home, while the nurses became a source of comfort and reassurance throughout his stay.

🚓 Redlands Police are investigating a Saturday night shooting that left a man injured on Orange Street. Officers found the victim lying on the sidewalk before he was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. This week’s police update also includes two teenagers detained after a homeowner watched masked suspects break into his work truck and two DUI arrests. Read more here.
🚓 The Redlands Police Department will conduct a DUI checkpoint from 6 p.m. to midnight Friday, Sept. 25, at an undisclosed location in the city. Police said the checkpoint location will be selected based on data showing where impaired-driving crashes have occurred.
🏛️ Want to get involved in Redlands? The city is accepting applications for three volunteer commission seats focused on human relations, cultural arts and public works. The first deadline is Sept. 29, with the remaining applications due Oct. 2 and Oct. 5.

In case you missed it... 🎻 Redlands Symphony opens 75th season: The Redlands Symphony will launch its 75th anniversary season Oct. 3 with “Shostakovich’s Fifth,” featuring works by Derrick Skye, Mélanie Bonis and Dmitri Shostakovich. The concert will be held at Clock Auditorium at Redlands High School as the Symphony temporarily moves from Memorial Chapel due to unscheduled maintenance.
