Sept. 23 gathering will explore the emotional impacts of climate change and ways residents can build community resilience.
The free museum inside the former Redlands Daily Facts building will debut with 13 exhibits exploring the city’s history, from citrus and Chinatown to film and firefighting.

REDLANDS, Calif. — The Redlands Symphony will open its 75th anniversary season Oct. 3 with a program spanning contemporary, French and Soviet composers — and a temporary change of venue.
“Shostakovich’s Fifth” begins at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at Clock Auditorium at Redlands High School, with a pre-concert talk at 6:30 p.m.
The program features works by Los Angeles-based composer Derrick Skye, French composer Mélanie Bonis and Dmitri Shostakovich.
Music Director Deanna Tham described the program as exploring “color, storytelling, and responses to oppression.”
“From the kaleidoscopic colors and textures of Derrick Skye, to the historical representations of strong women, to the sarcastic obedience and tongue-in-cheek nature of Shostakovich, our community will be swept away by the power and epicness of this most historic opening night,” Tham said in a statement.
The concert takes its name from Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5, one of the Soviet composer’s best-known works.
The Symphony is moving at least its first few concerts of the season from Memorial Chapel at the University of Redlands because of unscheduled maintenance at the chapel, Executive Director Kevin Eberle-Noel said.
Concerts at the temporary venue will also begin at 7 p.m. to accommodate Redlands Unified School District scheduling requirements and allow the Symphony to be off campus by 10 p.m.
Redlands Symphony Board Chair Karen Hansberger credited district and school officials with helping the organization secure the alternative venue on short notice.
“Our sincerest thanks go to School Board Member Patty Holohan and Superintendent Juan Cabral for their fast response to our request for an alternative venue, as well as Kent Hayworth at Redlands High School for the technical expertise being lent to the Symphony,” Hansberger said in a statement.
The season opener follows the Redlands Symphony’s annual Purse Party fundraiser Sept. 24 at the Museum of Redlands, which raises money to support music education programs for local elementary school students.
