Cal State San Bernardino golfers Kamron Hopson of Redlands and Tyler Price of Yucaipa helped the Coyotes team reach the match play quarterfinals of the NCAA Division II Championship.

Price, a sophomore, earned a half-point in his match with Daniel Solavera of University of Missouri-St. Louis when they were tied at the end of 18 holes, each shooting a three-under-par 69.

Hopson, a junior, shot a four-under-par 68 in his match with Benjamin Berger but lost 3-up in his quarterfinal match.

In other matches, CSUSB’s Mario Stump lost 4-up while Marco Lin lost 3-up and Aaron Parayno lost 6-up.

The 4.5-0.5 loss ended CSUSB’s title run at the hands of the No. 2 seed.

The Coyotes earned a spot in match play for the first time since match play was introduced in Division II in 2011. CSUSB finished seventh after 54 holes of stroke play at 10 under par at the Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nevada, a par-72 layout spanning 7,595 yards. Missouri-St. Louis was 27-under.

Price shot rounds of 69, 69 and 73 to finish 5-under-par in stroke play. Hopson shot 75, 66 and 71 to finish 4-under-par at 212, the same score as teammate Lin. Parayno was 2-over-par for 54 holes at 218.

Hopson was tied for sixth in scoring on par-5 holes at minus 10 or 4.17 strokes per par-5.

In his quarterfinal match with Solavera, Price led the match for 13 holes. He was 3-up after eight holes, but Solavera rallied and tied the match on the 14th hole when Price carded a bogey. Both players parred the final four holes.

Hopson was down 3-up to Berger after two holes but turned the match around with an eagle 3 on the par-5 third hole that tied the match.

Hopson took the lead at 1-up after a birdie on the seventh hole and went 2-up on Berger after a birdie at the 10th.

Berger tied the match at the 13th hole and went 2-up on Hopson at the 15th hole and finished 3-up.

Parayno birdied the second hole of his match with Logan Mayo of Missouri-St. Louis to go 1-up, but Mayo rallied to win the fourth hole and take a 1-up lead and never trailed thereafter.

This was CSUSB’s second straight trip to the Division II nationals.

The team finished 13th in stroke play in 2025 but only the top eight advance to match play.

Florida Southern, the No. 3 seed, won the tournament, defeating Wingate 3-2. Missouri-St. Louis tied for third and CSUSB and three other teams tied for fifth.

The Coyotes program enjoyed four straight appearances in the Division II national championship from 2006 through 2009 when the tournament was played at 72 holes of stroke play.

The 2009 team, led by Gene Webster (third) and Micah Burke (ninth), tied Sonoma State at the end of four rounds at Loomis Trail Golf Club in Blaine, Washington, but the Seawolves prevailed in a playoff and the Coyotes finished in second place. Webster and Burke were both named all-Americans.

CSUSB was 18th in 2008, 11th in 2007 and seventh in 2006.
