A birdie on the 54th hole of the 2026 NCAA Division II West-South Central Regional tournament by Cal State San Bernardino’s Kamron Hopson helped advance the men’s golf team into the national championship tournament for the second straight year.

The Coyotes will compete for the national title May 18-22 at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nevada, a course the team has played twice in the past two seasons.

CSUSB picked up the final qualifying spot for the tournament at the regional played at The Reserve at Spanos Park Golf Club in Stockton, site of this year’s CCAA conference tournament played May 7-9.

Hopson, who led Redlands High to a CIF section team title in 2021, shot a 6-under-par 66 along with a 1-under 71 and a 5-over-par 77 to finish the regional with a 2-under-par total of 214. Former Yucaipa High golfer Tyler Price opened the tournament with a 3-under-par 69 and finished at 2-over-par 218.

Teammate Aaron Parayno was 4-under par through 36 holes after rounds of 70 and finished with a 3-over 75 for a 1-under-par 215 score. Marco Lin finished the 54-hole event at 223, 7 over par.

Hopson’s birdie on the 18th hole on the final day of the tournament enabled CSUSB to claim the sixth and final spot in the national finals.

Western Washington won the regional title followed by West Texas A&M, Cal State East Bay, Colorado Christian, Cal State San Marcos and CSUSB. The top six teams were separated by just 12 strokes over 54 holes of play.

Hopson had six birdies and an eagle in the 66 he produced in the second round and finished 54 holes at 2-under par in a tie for eighth place. Price opened the tournament with a 3-under-par 69 featuring birdies on the first three holes. He finished the tournament at 2-over par after the final round, good for 32nd place. His back-to-back birdies on the back nine on the final day helped CSUSB secure the final qualifying spot.

Parayno, the runner-up for individual honors at the CCAA tournament, finished 1-under par for 54 holes and placed 10th individually.

CSUSB was 10 under par after 36 holes but shot 14 over par for the final 18 holes and slipped from among the top three teams to finish sixth.

The Coyotes played the Boulder Creek course during the team’s fall schedule Oct. 6-7, 2025, and performed well. Parayno shot rounds of 66, 68 and 71 for a 54-hole total of 205. Hopson shot 68, 72 and 70 for a 210 total. Price finished 8-under par after rounds of 69, 70 and 69.
