Planning Commission to review greenhouse gas reduction strategies through 2035
REDLANDS, Calif. — The Redlands Planning Commission will hold a public study session Tuesday, April 22, to review and discuss an update to the city’s Climate Action Plan, which outlines strategies for reducing greenhouse gas emissions through 2035.
The session is scheduled during the 4 p.m. Planning Commission meeting in the City Council Chambers at 35 Cajon Street. Members of the public are encouraged to attend and provide input, according to a news release from the city April 18.
City staff will present findings from a community survey and public workshops conducted in October 2024, as well as seek commission feedback on preferred greenhouse gas reduction strategies.
The goal of the update is to align with California’s evolving climate mandates while streamlining environmental review for future development projects under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).
The city’s current Climate Action Plan, adopted in 2017 alongside the Redlands 2035 General Plan, serves as a Qualified Greenhouse Gas Reduction Strategy. It outlines a framework for lowering emissions from transportation, energy use, and other key sectors in support of state goals. However, a report given in August 2024 revealed that Redlands' 2017 Climate Action Plan (CAP) has been ineffective in meeting local emission targets.
An updated draft of the Climate Action Plan is expected in the coming months.
