Additional patrols will target speeding drivers as part of statewide traffic safety effort.
REDLANDS, Calif. — The Redlands Police Department will increase speed enforcement throughout July as part of a statewide campaign encouraging drivers to slow down and follow posted speed limits.
Officers will conduct additional patrols focused on drivers exceeding the speed limit or traveling too fast for road, traffic or weather conditions.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 11,288 people were killed in speeding-related crashes nationwide in 2024, accounting for 29% of all traffic fatalities. In California, 1,139 people died in speeding-related crashes during the same year.
"Speeding is dangerous and puts everyone at risk," Redlands Police Traffic Unit Supervisor Sgt. Jeffrey Frisch said in a statement. "Your daily choice to drive within the speed limit protects everyone in our community. Risky driving behaviors like speeding continue to cause preventable tragedies on California roads."
The campaign comes as speeding continues to rank among the top traffic safety concerns for California drivers, according to the 2025 California Traffic Safety Survey.
Police encourage motorists to allow extra travel time, obey posted speed limits, adjust their speed for weather and traffic conditions, and avoid aggressive driving behaviors such as tailgating and weaving between vehicles.
The department said slowing down gives drivers more time to react to hazards and can reduce the severity of crashes when they occur.
