REDLANDS, Calif. — Redlands police are investigating a series of residential burglaries and business thefts reported over the past week, as well as a hit-and-run involving a motorhome that left a pedestrian injured and a suspected swatting hoax that prompted an emergency response.
Several residential burglaries were reported between May 10–11, with suspects forcing entry through windows and doors and leaving homes ransacked.
On Monday morning, May 12, police discovered a theft at a business in the 26900 block of San Bernardino Avenue. Investigators determined that two suspects had cut through the perimeter fence and stolen items from a UPS truck parked inside.
Police said the suspects have been identified as the same individuals arrested in a similar theft just two days earlier.
A man suffered bruises and abrasions late Sunday night, May 11, after being struck by a motorhome while in the crosswalk at West Lugonia Avenue and Alabama Street. The RV fled the scene and was last seen entering westbound Interstate 10.
A witness followed the vehicle and was able to provide officers with a partial license plate number and description. The victim was taken to the hospital, and the investigation is ongoing.
Police were called to a home in the 1400 block of Clock Avenue late Saturday night, May 10, after receiving a 911 call from a man claiming he had accidentally shot his wife. Officers surrounded the residence and instructed the occupants to exit.
All residents were found to be unharmed and unaware of the call. Police believe the report was part of a “swatting” hoax — a false emergency call intended to trigger an armed police response.
Police arrested a man for burglary late Saturday night after video surveillance captured him jumping a fence and entering a business through a rear door at Port Priority, located in the 27000 block of San Bernardino Avenue. He was later located nearby in possession of burglary tools.
In a separate incident, a man was arrested for DUI after crashing his truck into a Southern California Edison pole on San Timoteo Canyon Road late Saturday night. The vehicle came to rest in an orange grove in the 28800 block. No serious injuries were reported.
Anyone with information about these incidents is asked to contact Redlands Police Dispatch at (909) 798-7681, ext. 1. Non-emergency crimes can be reported at www.cityofredlands.org/report-crime or through the City of Redlands 311 mobile app.
