27th Annual Charlotte S. Huck Children's Literature Festival brings renowned authors to Redlands
REDLANDS, Calif. — For nearly three decades, the Charlotte S. Huck Children's Literature Festival has been a source of inspiration for educators, librarians, parents, and children's literature enthusiasts alike. This year, the tradition continues as the festival gears up to host its 27th installment, promising a blend of insight, creativity, and community spirit.
Scheduled for Friday, March 1st, through Saturday, March 2nd, 2024, at the University of Redlands, the festival is poised to offer attendees a rich tapestry of keynote speeches, breakout sessions, and networking opportunities. From renowned authors to passionate educators, the event draws a diverse crowd united by a shared love for children's literature.
Highlighting this year's lineup are keynote speakers handpicked from the "best of the best" in the literary world, including Mac Barnett, Tami Charles, Gennifer Choldenko, Dan Santat, Sylvia Vardell, and Janet Wong.
Organizers say the festival is expected to be attended by educators and librarians from Redlands Unified School District, Beaumont Unified School District, Glendora Unified School District, Yucaipa Calimesa Joint School District, The Grove School, High Point Academy, and Sage Oak Charter Schools.
Past participants attest to the festival's unique appeal, describing it as "a small, intimate conference where you can spend time with the authors and illustrators" and "a unique opportunity to spend time with others who share a passion for children's books."
In the days leading up to the festival, select authors will visit local elementary schools as part of Read Across America Day celebrations, further extending the festival's reach into the community.
On Thursday, Feb. 29 author Gennifer Choldenko will visit Kingsbury Elementary, funded in part by San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools Vision 2 Read Program. Michelle Worthington will be at Kimberly Elementary and author Mike Graf will visit Crafton Elementary on the same day.
The literature festival is sponsored by First 5 San Bernardino and A.K. Smiley Public Library.
