REDLANDS, Calif. — A 3.1 magnitude earthquake struck about 4 miles south-southwest of Redlands on Friday morning, shaking parts of the Inland Empire for the second time this week.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the earthquake, initially reported as a 3.3 magnitude, occurred at 5:53 a.m. May 8 and was centered near Redlands at a depth of 4.1 kilometers.

Then, around 6:40 p.m. on Friday a 3.4 magnitude struck the same area, according to USGS.

Residents across Redlands, Riverside and Moreno Valley reported light shaking according to USGS. No injuries or damage were immediately reported.

The quakes come two days after a 3.1 magnitude earthquake struck in nearly the same area Wednesday morning.

Southern California experiences thousands of earthquakes each year, though most are too small to be felt, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. Officials continue to encourage residents to review earthquake preparedness plans and ensure emergency alerts are enabled on their phones.
