REDLANDS, Calif. — The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Redlands-Riverside is seeking volunteers to help local children shop for back-to-school clothing and shoes during its annual Back-to-School Shopping Event on Saturday, July 18.
The event begins at 7 a.m. at Kohl's, 27540 Lugonia Ave. in Redlands.
Volunteers will be paired with participating youth to help them shop using a provided $200 Kohl's gift card for new school clothes and shoes. The annual program is designed to help families manage the rising costs of preparing children for the new school year.
According to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Redlands-Riverside, about 90% of the families it serves live at or below the federal poverty level.
The organization will host a second Back-to-School Shopping Event on Aug. 1 in Riverside, with a combined goal of providing 200 children across both communities with back to school essentials.
Organizers said those who are unable to volunteer can still support the program by making a donation. Contributions will go directly toward providing clothing, shoes and school supplies for local youth.
Those interested in volunteering can register at www.begreatie.org/back-2-school or contact Meghan McCann at MMccann@bgcie.org or 909-731-5607 for more information.
Community funding from organizations including the Kiwanis Club of Redlands, the Kiwanis Club of San Bernardino and the Starbucks Foundation helps make the shopping event possible.
