How to help Leadership Redlands bring its sustainable garden vision to life
REDLANDS, Calif. — The Leadership Redlands Class of 2025 has announced a community service project to transform a vacant lot near Sylvan Park into a sustainable native plant garden designed as both an educational resource and a gathering space.
Organizers said the new garden at the corner of Division Street and Sylvan Boulevard will feature drought-tolerant plants that attract pollinators, support food security and highlight the natural beauty of Redlands. Plans also include improved accessibility, seating areas and a possible public art installation.
“This is more than a garden, it’s a legacy,” the Class of 2025 said in a statement. “By uniting leaders across our city, we can create lasting change and preserve the beauty of Redlands for future generations.”
The class has set a fundraising goal of $25,000 to cover costs for plants, infrastructure and community features. Donations of $500 or more will include the option for a personalized engraved paver along the garden path. The group has set up a GoFundMe to collect donations. Contributions are tax-deductible through the Redlands Chamber Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
To help meet its goal, Leadership Redlands is hosting a series of “Pack the House” fundraisers this month. Lappart’s Ice Cream kicked things off Sept. 10, with additional events scheduled at:
Community members are encouraged to show the event flyer or social media post when ordering to ensure proceeds benefit the garden project.
In addition to donations and fundraisers, organizers encourage residents to share the project with friends and follow its progress on Instagram at @leadershipredlands.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony is planned once the garden is complete.
Leadership Redlands, organized by the Redlands Chamber of Commerce, is a 10-month program that brings together participants from business, government, education, nonprofits and other sectors. Each class explores key issues facing the region, connects with local leaders and works on a yearlong service project designed to make a lasting community impact. Leadership Redlands is recruiting its next class of participants. Applications for the Class of 2026 are due Oct. 31. Read more about the application process here.
