REDLANDS, Calif. — Work continues inside the former Redlands Mall as crews prepare the property for demolition, but city officials say there is still no firm timeline for when the building will come down.
Development Services Director Sean Reilly provided a brief update on the long-awaited redevelopment project during Tuesday's Planning Commission meeting.
Crews are currently conducting abatement inside the mall, including asbestos removal, Reilly said. They are also working through structural issues related to how demolition will occur around the CVS building.
"As far as future project details, none have been provided to the city," Reilly said.
The city has not received an application for revisions to the previously approved project, a new site plan or other updated development details, he said.
In 2022, the city approved a mixed-use development that included up to 700 housing units alongside about 65,000 square feet of retail, commercial and restaurant space. The development agreement allowed five years for construction to begin.
In December 2024, the developer, Village Partners, entered foreclosure, and by May 2025 renegotiated its $17 million loan.
In November 2025, Jack and Laura Dangermond, owners of Esri, purchased the mall property under the name Town Square Development Group LLC. It marked the sixth change in ownership of the property in two decades.
The commission also asked about two nearby projects associated with VantageOne Real Estate Investments, the developer that recently purchased the former LOOK Cinemas property on Eureka Street.
Reilly said plans are currently in plan check for the residential development at the former Safety Hall site, which has already been demolished. City Center is an approved mixed-use development that calls for 138 apartments along with restaurant and retail space at the northwest corner of Brookside Avenue and Eureka Street.
Plans are also in plan check for The Grand, an approved 149-unit apartment project at the northeast corner of Redlands Boulevard and Eureka Street. City staff did not provide timelines for either project.
