Redlands approves $49.7 million in construction contracts for new police station
Council advances Phase II of the long-planned police headquarters project as demolition begins at the former Kmart site.
Free Aug. 8 event at Sylvan Park will provide backpacks, school supplies and bicycles to students while supplies last
REDLANDS, Calif. — Micah House, in partnership with the City of Redlands, the Redlands Police Department and other community organizations, will host its annual Back2School Jam on Saturday, Aug. 8, offering free backpacks filled with school supplies to students in need.
The family-friendly event will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. at Sylvan Park–Micah House Chapel, 611 Chapel St.
Backpacks and school supplies will be distributed at no cost while supplies last. Students must be present to receive a backpack. Organizers also will hold bicycle giveaways during the event.
In addition to school supplies, families can connect with local organizations through a community resource area featuring information and services.
Community members can support the event by donating a new backpack filled with school supplies or by contributing $40 to cover the cost of a filled backpack.
Suggested supplies include #2 pencils, crayons, markers, colored pencils, pencil sharpeners, spiral notebooks, 1-inch binders, lined paper, pens and pink erasers.
Businesses and organizations also can participate by hosting an informational booth during the event or becoming an event sponsor with a donation of $1,000 or more. Volunteers are also needed.
Backpack donations must be dropped off by Friday, July 24, at the Trinity Church front office, 1551 Reservoir Road. Donations will be accepted Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
