Demolition underway at former Redlands Mall site as Town Square project advances
Friday morning crews made significant progress on the demolition phase of the Town Square redevelopment project.
League dual meet season nears finish with finals set for April 21
Beaumont High’s boys track and field team and Cajon High’s girls track and field teams both improved to 4-0 in the Citrus Belt League with dual meet victories over Citrus Valley and Redlands on Tuesday, April 14.
The Cougars’ girls team improved to 3-1 with their win over CVHS, while the Cajon boys evened their record at 2-2 with a win against Redlands.
Meanwhile, Yucaipa swept its dual meet against Redlands East Valley on Tuesday.
The final dual meets will be conducted on April 21 with Cajon facing Citrus Valley, REV facing Beaumont and Redlands vs. Yucaipa. The CBL championships will be held April 28 and April 30 at Beaumont High.
Cajon 94, Redlands 32 – Cajon sizzled in the 4x100 relay in 42.43. Jordan Young of Cajon won the 110 high hurdles in a CBL season and personal best 15.37 and took the 300-meter hurdles in 41.79. Zeth Verdon of Cajon won the triple jump at 42 feet, 2.75 inches. Rasheed Balogun of Cajon doubled in the 100 meters (10.77) and the 200 meters (21.78). Matthew Luna of RHS won the long jump at 20 feet, 11.5 inches. Calvin Osborne of RHS won the 3200 meters in 10:40.17.
Beaumont 100, Citrus Valley 27 – Beaumont’s Kai Johnston won both the 100 meters (10.88) and the 200 meters (22.61), and Timothy Moore led a Cougars sweep of the 800 meters in 2:01 flat. Brody Patterson led a BHS sweep of the 300-meter hurdles in 41.92. Elijah Light led a BHS sweep of the 3200 meters in 10:18.24. Nathan Neis won the 110-meter high hurdles in 15.90. For CVHS, Xavier Loera won the 400 meters in 52.10, and Eldo Chakna won the high jump.
Yucaipa 79, Redlands East Valley 48 – REV took the 4x100 relay in 43.79. Elijah Medina won the 3200 in 9:45.04. Yoanis Altamirano won the discus at 134 feet, 7 inches for REV. DeMareaye Hopkins of REV won the 300-meter hurdles in 40.74. Isaac Castaneda of REV won both the 100- and 200-meter sprints. Aiden Joyce won the 1600 meters in 4:33.24 for Yucaipa. Dylan Holloway won the 800 meters in 2:01.56. Ty Nicholas took the long jump at 20 feet, 1 inch. Ronin Lopez of YHS won the shot put at 45 feet, 9 inches.
Cajon 74, Redlands 52 – Sadie Herford continued her strong season for the Terriers, winning the 400 meters in 60.22, the long jump at 16 feet, 11.25 inches and the triple jump at 34 feet. Carmen Robles of RHS won the shot put at 38 feet, 11 inches and the discus at 114 feet, 6 inches. Lyanna Garcia took the 800 meters for RHS. Chanel Daniel won the 100 meters in 12.48 for Cajon and ran a leg on the 4x100 relay, timed in 48.86. Cajon’s Katherine Lomeli was a double winner in the 1600 and 3200 meters.
Beaumont 102, Citrus Valley 25 – Freshman Alyssa Castaneda of CVHS won the 1600 meters in 5:35.63. Kendall Timm won the high jump for CVHS, and Alexis Castro won the discus. Beaumont’s Mariam Oladeidne took the 100 meters in 12.89 and the 200 meters in 26.68. Kaila Salera won the 800 meters in 2:21.57. Julie Kowalski of BHS won the 400 meters in 60.09, with Alina King of CVHS second in 60.17. The Cougars’ 1600 relay edged Citrus Valley 4:07.39 to 4:08.49.
Yucaipa 66, Redlands East Valley 61 – Yucaipa’s 1600 relay crew won in 3:31.66 to secure the dual meet victory. REV’s 4x100 relay team won in 50.89. Freshman Savannah Morris continued her strong season, winning the 100 meters in 12.58, the 200 meters in a personal best 25.59 and the long jump at 17 feet, 5.5 inches. Rylee Edmiston of YHS won the 100- and 300-meter hurdles. Emmalynne Dowdy doubled in the shot put (33 feet, 10 inches) and the discus (128 feet, 7 inches) for YHS. Brooks Tarcon won the 3200 meters in 11:49.26.
Citrus Valley’s Alyssa Castaneda finished fourth in the 800 meters at the April 11 Asics Irvine Distance Carnival in a personal-best 2:19.69.
The REV 4x800 relay team of Elijah Medina, Dominic Vasquez, Emery Dominguez and Brendan Mercado-Medina took 10th in the Arcadia Invitational in 8:05.33.
Kasen Gragg, a sophomore at Redlands High, tied for 11th in the Arcadia high jump at 6 feet, 2 inches.
The 66th Mt. SAC Relays will take place April 16–18 at Hilmer Lodge Stadium on the Walnut campus, featuring prep, college and open events.
The Inland Empire Championships will be April 18 at Vista Murrieta High in Riverside County, with Redlands, Citrus Valley, Redlands East Valley, Yucaipa and Beaumont scheduled to participate.
