Woman hospitalized with burns after mobile home fire in Redlands

Fire breaks out at Dearborn Street mobile home Tuesday morning

A woman was hospitalized Tuesday morning after suffering severe burns while escaping a fire at a mobile home in the 600 block of Dearborn Street, according to the Redlands Fire Department.

Firefighters responded shortly before 11 a.m. to reports of a structure fire at a single-story mobile home. Crews arrived to find smoke and flames coming from the residence.

The woman, who was inside the home when the fire broke out, escaped before firefighters arrived and was found sitting on a sidewalk across the street, fire officials said. She was treated at the scene and transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Two cats died in the fire.

The fire spread quickly into the kitchen and living areas of the home. Firefighters mounted an aggressive attack and brought the fire under control before it could spread to two vehicles parked in the carport or to nearby mobile homes.

The fire was extinguished within about 20 minutes, though crews remained on scene for more than five hours, according to the department. Damage is estimated at $200,000.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The Redlands Police Department assisted with traffic control and temporary street closures in the area.
