The Halloween season is in full swing across Redlands, with family-friendly celebrations, cultural traditions, and even an eco-friendly way to recycle those leftover pumpkins.
At the Municipal Airport, families can enjoy the annual Plane or Treat event from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, featuring creatively decorated airplanes, bounce houses, food trucks, and plenty of candy. Costumes are encouraged for this free community event, which transforms the airport tarmac into a festive fall fairground. Learn more here.
Downtown Redlands will come alive again on Thursday, Oct. 31, for the Olive Avenue Halloween Extravaganza, hosted by the city. From 4 to 7 p.m., Olive Avenue between Cajon and Center streets will close to traffic for safe trick-or-treating, inflatable attractions, food vendors, and photo ops with costumed characters. Learn more here.
The celebrations continue through the weekend with a Día de los Muertos observance on Nov. 1 at A.K. Smiley Public Library, where families can explore the history and meaning of the holiday honoring departed loved ones. The library’s program includes traditional altar displays, crafts, and readings that highlight Mexican and Latin American heritage. Learn more here.
After the candy and costumes are packed away, residents are invited to bring their pumpkins to the Pumpkin Smash on Tuesday, Nov. 4, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the bi-level parking structure at Sixth Street and Citrus Avenue. The event promotes composting and sustainability, encouraging participants to smash pumpkins free of paint or decorations so they can be safely turned into compost. Light refreshments will be served while supplies last.
