REDLANDS, Calif. — The Redlands Unified School District (RUSD) Board of Education will meet Tuesday, August 19, to consider labor negotiations, major construction agreements and personnel actions.

After months of debate, the board will also hold a final vote on two revised policies that will shape how books and curriculum materials are reviewed for appropriateness.

Here’s how the meeting breaks down:

Closed Session

Before the public meeting, the board will hold a closed session to discuss sensitive matters such as labor negotiations, personnel appointments, litigation and student discipline.

During the closed session beginning at 4:30 p.m. on August 19 the board will discuss:

  • Labor negotiations for the 2025–26 school year with the Redlands Teachers Association and the Redlands Education Support Professionals Association.
  • A classified management appointment.
  • A performance evaluation of the superintendent.
  • Student matters, including suspension or expulsion cases.
  • Legal counsel updates on ongoing litigation.

Open Session

The regular meeting begins at 6:00 p.m.

Presentations and Reports

The agenda includes committee reports from trustees and an update from Superintendent Juan Cabral.

Public Participation

During this time, individuals may address the Board on matters on the agenda. Speakers must submit a completed speaker slip to the Clerk or designated staff member prior to the start of public comments on agenda items. The allotted time will be announced during the meeting.

The consent calendar groups together routine items for approval in a single vote, unless a board member pulls an item for separate discussion or a public comment is submitted.

On this agenda these include:

Business Services

  • Approval of a $4.17 million agreement with SGH Architects for middle school safety improvements at all four campuses and a disaster recovery project at Citrus Valley High School to create a secure backup of the district’s mainframe system.
  • An amendment to remove Bryn Mawr Elementary from the district’s portable classroom lease agreement with the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools.
  • Roofing change orders at Crafton Elementary ($20,315) and Kimberly Elementary ($8,363), both funded by Measure D bond dollars.
  • Ratification of the district’s fourth-quarter Williams Report on school facilities and instructional materials.

Educational Services

  • Approval for 13 members of the Redlands East Valley High School boys varsity water polo team to compete in a Santa Barbara invitational Sept. 4–6.
  • Approval of out-of-state travel for professional development meetings.
  • Final vote (second reading) of three policy revisions:
    • Administrative Regulation 1312.2 — updated procedures for complaints concerning library and media center materials.
    • Exhibit 5145.71 — Title IX sexual harassment complaint procedures.
    • Board Policy 6000 — concepts and roles of the board, with added language regarding instructional materials.

Human Resources

  • Professional growth stipends for classified employees.
  • Revised salary placements and assignments for management personnel.

The meeting will conclude with public comment on non-agenda items, followed by board and superintendent remarks.
