Volunteer projects for all ages at Ford Park, including tree planting, park cleanup, sod installation and improvements near the ponds.
REDLANDS, Calif. — Residents of all ages are invited to roll up their sleeves and give back to the community at the 17th Annual Redlands Community Day of Service on Saturday, March 14, at Ford Park.
The event begins at 9 a.m. and will feature a range of hands-on projects throughout the park, including opportunities designed for children and families.
Volunteers will assist with tree planting, general grounds cleanup, decomposed granite installation, sod installation in the Small Boy Scout area and planting shrubs to create a green screen. Organizers plan to plant between 30 and 40 trees in 24-inch boxes throughout the park.
Additional projects include replenishing perimeter rocks near the ponds, planting a hillside adjacent to the ponds, repainting duck habitat fencing and removing unwanted reeds. A potential project may include replanting the hillside north of the tennis courts.
Organizers noted that work around the ponds is not suitable for families with young children.
Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. in the large grassy area near the dog park.
Free parking will be available at Eastside Christian Church, located at the corner of Highland Avenue and Redlands Boulevard. Vans and golf carts will transport participants who are unable to walk the roughly 500 yards to the park.
Community members planning to participate are encouraged to sign up in advance to receive a reminder and to assist organizers with planning.
The annual Day of Service brings together residents, families and local organizations to improve and beautify one of Redlands’ historic parks while fostering community connections.
