Student production confronts gun violence, immigration, and political division in powerful new play
REDLANDS, Calif. — The University of Redlands Department of Theatre and Dance will stage Acts of Kindness, a documentary-style play exploring the aftermath of a mass shooting in El Paso, Texas, ahead of the production’s international debut at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
Performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 29, and Friday, May 30, at the Frederick Loewe BlackBox Theatre on the university campus. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at ticketsource.com/university-of-redlands-theatre.
Written by Gregory Ramos, Acts of Kindness is a theatrical montage inspired by interviews conducted in the year following the 2019 Walmart shooting that left 23 people dead. The play gives voice to victims, survivors, and community members while grappling with America’s persistent struggles over gun control, immigration, and political polarization.
The Redlands performances serve as a sendoff for students who will bring the show to Scotland this summer as part of the prestigious Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
