Sheriff’s investigators say the men exchanged gunfire before one fatally shot himself.
YUCAIPA, Calif. — Two men were found dead with gunshot wounds Wednesday afternoon in what authorities believe was a murder-suicide, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies responded at about 12:15 p.m. April 8 to the 12000 block of Bryant Street for a medical aid call. Upon arrival, they located Stephan James Slivka Jr. and Rodney Lee Chanadet, both suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.
The Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division’s Homicide Detail assumed the investigation. Detectives believe the two men exchanged gunfire, after which Slivka died from his injuries. Chanadet then shot himself after being wounded, investigators said.
The investigation remains ongoing.
