Former Redlands East Valley standouts Astrid and Catalina Teran continue to break personal records at Cal Poly and UC Irvine after state championship runs in community college.
Former Redlands East Valley High School track and field standouts Astrid and Catalina Teran are continuing their athletic success at the NCAA Division I level, building on a decorated high school and community college career.
The sisters, who graduated from REV in 2023, first made their mark at Mount San Antonio College. In 2024, they helped lead the program to a state community college championship in the 4x100-meter relay, posting a time of 46.85 seconds. Astrid also placed fourth in the state meet in the pole vault, clearing 12 feet, 1.5 inches.
In 2025, Catalina transferred to Riverside City College, where she delivered a standout season. She helped the Tigers win the 4x400-meter relay at the state meet in 3:50.49 and ran a leg on the runner-up 4x100 relay team. Individually, she placed third in the long jump, fourth in the 100 meters (11.86), and fifth in the 200 meters (24.08), while also vaulting 11 feet, 4.8 inches.
Now competing separately at the Division I level, Astrid is a junior at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, while Catalina is a junior at UC Irvine. Both are expected to compete in the Big West Conference Championships on May 15–16 at Long Beach State.
Catalina has continued to improve her sprint times this season. She posted a 100-meter time of 11.54 at the Ben Brown Invitational on March 13 and ran a personal-best 23.61 in the 200 meters at the Beach Opener on March 6. She also ran a leg on UC Irvine’s 4x400 relay team that set a school record of 3:40.83 at Cal State Fullerton.
Both of her sprint marks currently rank No. 1 in the Big West Conference.
Astrid, meanwhile, has reached new heights in the pole vault. She cleared a personal-best 13 feet, 4.5 inches earlier this month, moving her into the top 10 nationally in NCAA Division I, according to Cal Poly athletics.
The Teran sisters were a dominant force during their time at REV. At the 2023 Citrus Belt League finals at Yucaipa High School, Catalina placed second in both the 100 meters (12.61) and 200 meters (25.99), and third in the long jump (17 feet). She also ran on the second-place 4x100 relay team (49.59).
Astrid placed third in the 100 meters (12.74) and 200 meters (26.31), and won the long jump with a personal-best mark of 17 feet, 3.5 inches. She also competed on the 4x100 relay team and cleared 5 feet in the high jump.
Pole vault was not contested in the Citrus Belt League at the time due to a lack of facilities.
