Redlands East Valley High’s freshman wrestler Marco Costa, a quarterfinalist at the CIF State Championship, heads a group of six boys and girls named to the All-Inland Area wrestling teams announced recently.
Costa, the 10th seed at the state meet in Bakersfield, was the runner-up at the CIF Southern Section Masters and the Northern Region meet, as well as the Citrus Belt League champion at 132 pounds.
He was the only CBL boys wrestler named to the All-Area first team selected by sports writers for four Inland daily newspapers.
Named to the boys All-Area second team were Redlands High senior Micah Freimuth at 157 pounds, Yucaipa High junior Luc Sorensen at 157 pounds and senior Matthew Casas of Beaumont High at 215 pounds.
Sorensen and Casas made it to the round of 16 at the state meet before losing.
Both Sorensen and Casas took third place in their weight class at the Southern Section Masters meet.
Selected to the girls All-Inland Area teams were two Citrus Valley High wrestlers — senior Genesis Chavez at 120 pounds and senior Hailey Barrios at 235 pounds.
Chavez, a third-place finisher at the Southern Section Masters, and Barrios, the runner-up at the Masters’ 235-pound division, both lost their opening matches at the State Championship.
Two former CBL girls wrestlers — Zahra Stewart and Gia Coons of Orange Vista High in Perris — were selected to the All-Inland Area first team.
Stewart, a senior who competed for Yucaipa High as a freshman, took second in the state finals and was a three-time Southern Section Masters champion. Coons, a sophomore who finished sixth in the state in 2025 at 155 pounds as a freshman at Citrus Valley High, won the state title at 235 pounds this year as a sophomore at Orange Vista.
