REDLANDS, Calif. — Redlands East Valley High School’s wrestling program completed a busy winter break schedule that included six tournaments across Southern California, highlighted by a Citrus Belt League dual-meet sweep of Cajon and multiple podium finishes at regional and elite competitions.
The Wildcats’ boys and girls varsity teams both defeated Cajon High School in league duals, improving the boys’ varsity record to 7-1 this season. REV’s junior varsity team dropped a close match to Cajon.
At the Orange Vista Coyote Carnage tournament, the REV boys junior varsity squad placed second as a team. William Hukriede (113 pounds) and Henry Jedrysek (215) won individual titles. Following his Raul Huerta title, Costa advanced to the Doc Buchanan Invitational in Clovis, one of the nation’s most competitive high school wrestling tournaments, and finished 2-2 against top-ranked competition.
On the girls side, Savannah Gutierrez placed eighth at the Queen of the Hill tournament, which featured 64-wrestler brackets and competitors from multiple states and Canada.
REV also hosted two large tournaments during the break. At the Girls Varsity Top Cat Tournament on Jan. 9, the Wildcats finished sixth out of 22 teams. Katie Crain (130) placed third, while Fabby Perez (120), Lazette Ramirez (125) and Kailey Cooper (135) finished fourth.
