Redlands East Valley sophomore distance runner Elijah Medina shattered several personal records during the first two weeks of the 2026 high school track and field season.

Medina, the 2025 Citrus Belt League cross country champion who ran a personal best of 14:47 for three miles last fall, surpassed his previous bests in the 800 meters, 1,600 meters and 3,200 meters before the end of February.

In a nonleague dual meet against San Gorgonio High School, Medina won the 800 meters in 1 minute, 59.55 seconds, improving on his 2025 best of 2:16.28 by nearly 17 seconds. Teammate Emery Dominguez finished second in 2:01.10.

Medina continued his strong start at the Saddle Up Invitational on Feb. 28 at Vista Murrieta High School. He won the 1,600 meters in a meet-record time of 4:19.37, more than 14 seconds faster than his previous best of 4:33.62. Later in the meet, he also captured the 3,200 meters in 9:35.85, well below his prior best of 10:02.56.

Dominguez also set a personal record in the 800 meters at the invitational, finishing sixth in 1:59.99 after running just over 2:01 at the REV–San Gorgonio meet earlier in the week.

Redlands High School sophomore Kasen Gragg set a meet record in the frosh-soph division high jump, clearing 6 feet, 7 inches. Earlier in the season, Gragg recorded a triple jump of 43 feet, 6 inches in a dual meet against Palm Desert.

Citrus Valley’s Alyssa Castaneda won the girls frosh-soph 1,600 meters in 5:22.40. Earlier this season, she also captured the 800 meters in 2:28.68 during a dual meet against Norco.

REV’s Savannah Morris finished second in the frosh-soph 100 meters in 12.53, followed by teammate London Peedon in third place with a time of 12.67.

Redlands High’s Sadie Herford placed third in the varsity 300-meter hurdles in 47.64 and finished third in the varsity long jump with a mark of 16 feet, 6½ inches. Teammate Nila Hill took fifth in the long jump at 16 feet, 2¾ inches.
