REDLANDS, Calif. — The city of Redlands will hold two online community workshops in early November to review proposed updates to its official truck route map. The change is required under new state law aimed at reducing the impacts of heavy truck traffic on local neighborhoods.

Why it matters: The law requires cities in California’s “warehouse concentration region” — including Redlands and much of the Inland Empire — to adopt updated truck route maps that account for roadway safety, infrastructure capacity, and proximity to sensitive sites such as schools and parks.

Details: Redlands already has a truck route as part of to the city’s 2035 General Plan Circulation Element. The amendment is intended to bring Redlands into compliance with Assembly Bill 98, which took effect Sept. 29, 2024 and requires updated maps by Jan. 1, 2026, to avoid penalties.

Workshop Dates: The Redlands workshops will be held via Zoom at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 3, and Thursday, Nov. 6.

Both sessions will include the same presentation outlining the draft truck route map, the process behind its development, and time for public questions and feedback.

Residents can join either meeting using this link: https://cityofredlands.zoom.us/j/86731142116

Regional context: Other cities covered by the regional warehouse designation include Chino, Colton, Fontana, Jurupa Valley, Moreno Valley, Ontario, Perris, Rancho Cucamonga, Rialto, Riverside and San Bernardino, along with Riverside and San Bernardino counties. The County of San Bernardino is also updating county and unincorporated streets. Read more about their community outreach and proposed maps here

Next steps: The Redlands City Council must review and approve an updated truck route map before the Jan. 1, 2026, deadline to remain in compliance with AB 98.
