Redlands Veterans Day Parade to honor local heroes
Tuesday, Nov. 11 | Parade begins at 9 a.m. from Redlands High School
REDLANDS, Calif. — The city of Redlands and the Redlands Hometown Heroes Foundation will host the annual Veterans Day Parade and ceremony on Tuesday, Nov. 11, honoring local service members and celebrating veterans nationwide.
This year’s Grand Marshal is retired U.S. Army Sgt. Dan Flanigan. A Redlands native, Flanigan was drafted into the Army in March 1966. Following training at Fort Benning, GA, he served in the Vietnam War as a forward observer with the 1st Air Cavalry Division. He is the recipient of numerous medals and honors, including the Combat Infantryman Badge, Bronze Star and the Army Commendation Medal with a “V” device for valor. He flew more than 150 missions and was awarded the Purple Heart following a combat injury.
The founder of Flanigan Construction Company in 1998, he managed construction of the six-story Redlands Federal Building, currently being converted to become Redlands City Hall.
The parade will begin at Redlands High School, 840 E. Citrus Ave., and travel to Jennie Davis Park, located at Redlands Boulevard and New York Street.
A Veterans Day Observance will follow at 10:45 a.m. at Jennie Davis Park, featuring remarks from Mayor Mario Saucedo and a proclamation honoring 100-year-old Navy veteran Eddie Chacon.
The celebration continues with food vendors, live music, a beer garden, and displays of military vehicles, hosted by American Legion Posts 106 and 650.
