Redlands to honor fallen service members at Memorial Day ceremony

REDLANDS, Calif. — A Memorial Day ceremony honoring fallen service members will be held at 10:45 a.m. Monday, May 26, at Hillside Memorial Park, 1540 Alessandro Road.

Retired U.S. Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Jacki Mortenson, the first female chief flight engineer in the Air Force, will deliver the keynote address. Mortenson broke that barrier in 1992 during a distinguished military career.

The event will also include a performance by the Patriot Horns and remarks from A.K. Smiley Public Library Director Don McCue, who will highlight local military members buried at Hillside who died in service. David Maupin, a former Naval Flight Officer and Naval Science professor, Lt of US Navy, will speak about his recent trip to Iwo Jima to honor and mourn fallen soldiers.

The ceremony is hosted by American Legion Posts 106 and 650.
