Event on Sept. 10 will commemorate renaming of centers and dining room after local community service leaders
REDLANDS, Calif. – A community celebration will commemorate the renaming of three Redlands city facilities on Sept. 10 from 6 to 7 p.m. at 111 W. Lugonia Ave.
The event follows the Redlands City Council's approval on May 21, 2024, to rename the facilities.
The Redlands Community Center will become the Joe R. Gonzales Community Center. The Redlands Community Senior Center will be renamed the Ediberto and Gloria Flores Senior Center. The dining room at the facility will be named the Mary Reyes Sanchez Dining Room.
The celebration will feature comments from city officials and family members, along with information on programs available at both centers and light refreshments.
"Joe R. Gonzales was deeply involved in community activism, particularly focused on improving facilities and opportunities for the youth of the north side of Redlands," the city stated in its announcement.
The city also noted that "Eddie and Gloria Flores have dedicated their lives to community service and fostering positive change through educational and cultural initiatives."
Highlighting Sanchez's contributions, the city mentioned, "She volunteered daily for the lunch program at the Community Center, organized special events and was involved in advisory boards."
Reservations are not required for the event. The community and senior center is located at 111 W. Lugonia Ave.
