REDLANDS, Calif. — One of Redlands’ most popular fundraisers is getting a new season and a new home.

The Redlands Symphony’s annual Purse Party — a silent and live auction of designer, new and gently used purses — will be held Thursday, Oct. 23, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Laura and Jack Dangermond Events Pavilion and Gardens at the Museum of Redlands.

The event, launched in 2014, quickly outgrew its early venues in private homes and has since moved to larger public spaces. The 2020 Purse Party was the final major social gathering many attended before pandemic shutdowns.

This year marks the first time the fundraiser will be held in the fall, with organizers hoping for cooler weather as the event has shifted outdoors to accommodate its growing popularity.

“We are excited to hold the Purse Party this year in the Gardens at MOR,” said event co-chair Marilyn Solter. “The Gardens and Pavilion were designed with the idea of bringing the community into the museum space. It is an honor for us to hold our fundraiser in this special space.”

Guests can browse hundreds of purses in the silent auction while enjoying wine and appetizers. The highlight of the evening is the live auction, when well-known Redlands men take the stage to model high-end purses for bidding. This year’s lineup includes Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld, Valentino and Kate Spade.

Proceeds support the Symphony’s education and community engagement programs, including OrKIDstra, which brings every fourth- and fifth-grade student in Redlands and Yucaipa-Calimesa schools to a free Memorial Chapel performance, and OrKIDstra To Go!, which takes the concert experience directly into classrooms. Funds also provide free concert tickets to community members who would otherwise be unable to attend.

Tickets are $60 and available at the Symphony office, 301 Ninth St., Suite 302; by phone at 909-587-5565; or online at RedlandsSymphony.com/purse
