REDLANDS, Calif. — Kingsbury Elementary School and Redlands High School each received $2,500 in donations at the grand reopening of the Albertsons supermarket at 450 E. Cypress Ave. on Friday.
The reopening follows an eight-month remodel of the Cypress Avenue store and comes as another Albertsons-owned location, the Vons on Orange Street, closed earlier this week.

The changes come amid broader shifts in the grocery industry, including a failed $24.6 billion merger attempt between Albertsons and Kroger in 2024, as companies adjust store footprints and invest in select locations.
Friday's ceremony began with the Redlands High School Air Force Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps color guard presenting the colors, followed by the national anthem. Kingsbury fifth grade student Penny Miranda then led the crowd in the Pledge of Allegiance.

After remarks from Albertsons Companies representatives and a brief history of the location shared by Redlands Mayor Pro Tem Marc Shaw, Redlands High School Principal Wes Cullen and Kingsbury Elementary Principal Jeff Wray each accepted $2,500 donations raised through the Albertsons Companies Foundation.

The Albertsons Companies Foundation supports local schools and community organizations with funds raised through checkout campaigns and customer donations.

WK Kellogg Co. also provided 500 books from publisher Penguin Random House to Kingsbury through its Feeding Reading program, a literacy initiative promoting childhood reading nationwide.

The event concluded with a ribbon-cutting marking the reopening of the Albertsons store, which has served the Redlands community for more than 20 years.
