REDLANDS, Calif. The Redlands Public Market officially opened its doors Friday, May 2, with a ribbon cutting ceremony with the Redlands Chamber of Commerce that drew city officials, business leaders and community supporters to the long-anticipated food hall and gathering space on Eureka Street.

Built inside a restored citrus packing house, the market features more than 20 local food and retail vendors, a public plaza, and a newly opened outdoor patio. Sunday Fundays and weekly events will anchor the space moving forward, including a special Mother's Day celebration on May 11 with free flowers, entertainment and kids’ activities.

“This is a thriving hub for the community and for independent small businesses,” said a representative from Self-Help Federal Credit Union, one of the project’s financial partners. “We’re proud to support something that brings economic opportunity to a place that was once overlooked.”

Entrepreneurs from across the Inland Empire — some running their first restaurants — were recognized for their patience and vision. “They took a chance on us during construction,” said Jerry Tessier, president of Arteco Partners, whose family-led company also operates public markets in Pomona and Riverside. “It’s hard to run a restaurant in this economy. So please support local.”

The project was praised for preserving the building’s historic character while creating new jobs and foot traffic. Mayor Mario Saucedo called the market a “win-win” for Redlands and commended Tessier for sticking with the project after early concept drawings and delays. “Your investment in the city is greatly appreciated,” Saucedo said.

Evan Sanford, executive director of the Redlands Chamber of Commerce, highlighted the vision and long-term potential behind the project. “It’s hard to see what this man sees at the beginning stage — but we’re so lucky to have someone like Jerry fostering the entrepreneurial spirit in Redlands,” Sanford said. He noted the market’s role in connecting local farms and independent restaurants, calling it “just the beginning” of Redlands’ growing agritourism economy.

Representatives from county, state and federal offices also presented certificates and offered congratulations.

Organizers estimate more than 200 people now work inside the Redlands Public Market, with nearly 2 million annual visitors expected. In addition to food and drink, the space will host pop-up retail, arts events, and collaborative gatherings with local farms and nonprofits.

“This isn’t just about one business — it’s about creating a community of businesses,” said Alex Teran, RPM General Manager & Consultant. Teran encouraged the crowd to "support local businesses as much as you can."
