REDLANDS, Calif. — Redlands police responded to a range of incidents in the past week, including a woman who fired a rifle at a perceived intruder, a series of vehicle burglaries that led to three arrests, multiple DUI cases and separate drug investigations involving fentanyl and methamphetamine.
A woman was taken into custody for psychiatric evaluation early Tuesday morning, Feb. 10, after reportedly firing a shot at what she believed was an intruder hiding under her home, Redlands police said.
A neighbor told police the woman came to his home around 1:30 a.m. holding a rifle and claiming she had been sprayed with a chemical. After she left, the neighbor called police.
Officers responded with a Bearcat tactical vehicle. While speaking with the neighbor by phone, officers were told a gunshot had been heard. Police contacted the woman, who appeared frantic and claimed an attacker was under her home. She was detained without incident.
Officers located a rifle outside the residence. The woman admitted firing a shot into the ground. The weapon was collected, and she was transported to a hospital for evaluation. Police contacted neighbors to confirm no one was injured.
Three people, including a 13-year-old boy, were arrested shortly before 1 a.m. Friday, Feb. 6, following a series of vehicle burglaries in the 800 block of Lytle Street.
The victim reported seeing three suspects flee in an older silver Toyota Camry. Officers located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop, recovering numerous stolen items.
After the arrests, police received additional reports of vehicle burglaries involving property matching the items found in the suspects’ vehicle. Surveillance video later showed the suspects committing some of the crimes.
Most of the stolen property has been returned. Police said additional recovered items believed to be stolen have not yet been claimed.
Police made two DUI arrests during the week and are investigating a separate hit-and-run collision.
On Wednesday, Feb. 11, officers arrested a driver for DUI after he was found passed out behind the wheel in the parking lot behind Sprouts, 560 W. Stuart Ave., after colliding with an unoccupied parked vehicle. Police said the driver became argumentative and refused to submit to a field sobriety test before being taken into custody.
On Sunday evening, Feb. 8, another driver was arrested for DUI after being involved in a collision and leaving the scene. The other driver followed her until she stopped.
Police are also investigating a hit-and-run collision reported late Friday, Feb. 6. A driver traveling west on Lugonia Avenue east of California Street veered off the roadway and struck a city light pole on the north side of the street. The driver fled. The vehicle was later located at the registered owner’s residence, but the driver has not been found.
Two separate investigations led to multiple arrests and the seizure of fentanyl and methamphetamine.
Late Tuesday night, Feb. 10, officers conducted a traffic stop on Texas Street at Sun Avenue and arrested a man for possession of drugs for sale. Police said he was found with fentanyl packaged in separate clear plastic baggies. A follow-up search of a motel room in San Bernardino uncovered additional fentanyl, digital scales and empty plastic baggies.
Earlier that afternoon, officers contacted two people behind a business in the 600 block of Orange Street. A vehicle search yielded approximately 60 grams of methamphetamine and 3 grams of fentanyl. Both suspects were arrested on suspicion of drug sales, transportation and conspiracy.
