Redlands Police respond to standoff, fatal crash and series of DUI arrests

REDLANDS, Calif. Redlands police responded to a series of high-risk incidents over the past week, including a domestic violence standoff involving firearms, a fatal crash following a pursuit, an armed robbery, and multiple DUI-related arrests.

Armed Standoff Follows Domestic Violence Call

Officers were dispatched shortly after 4 a.m. Thursday, June 12, to a home where two children ran out to meet them, reporting that their father was assaulting their mother. As officers approached, the woman exited the home with visible injuries and confirmed the domestic violence.

While police were speaking with her, the suspect appeared in an upstairs window and brandished a firearm. Officers evacuated the victim and children and took cover before hearing a gunshot from inside the house. A perimeter was established with support from the department’s Bearcat armored vehicle and the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department helicopter.

Police were able to contact the man and eventually talked him into surrendering. A SWAT search of the home turned up 10 firearms, including three non-serialized “ghost guns.” The suspect was arrested on charges including domestic violence, criminal threats, obstructing a police officer, and weapons violations.

Pursuit Ends in Fatal Collision

On the morning of Wednesday, June 10, Redlands police assisted with traffic control after a police pursuit ended in a fatal crash at Redlands Boulevard and Tennessee Street.

According to authorities, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies were attempting to stop a motorcyclist when he crashed into a passenger vehicle, killing the driver and passenger as well as the suspect.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the incident. More details here.

Altercations Reported During Overpass Demonstration

A demonstration on the Wabash Avenue bridge over Interstate 10 on Tuesday evening, June 9, led to altercations, including reports of assaults, threats, and the brandishing of a handgun. Approximately 20 individuals waving flags had reportedly blocked both ends of the bridge with vehicles. Police responded and cleared the area. One person reported being assaulted but declined to file a report. Redlands Fire Department crews responded to assist with any injuries.

DUI Crashes and Assault Arrest

Three DUI-related arrests were made between June 6 and 7:

  • A driver was arrested at Orange Street and Pearl Avenue on Saturday, June 7, after crashing into two vehicles and a city sign. The suspect fled on foot but was later contacted by police and arrested for DUI.
  • On Friday night, June 6, a driver ran a red light and crashed into another vehicle at Redlands Boulevard and Alabama Street. She attempted to flee but her car became disabled. Police found multiple empty alcohol containers in her vehicle. Both drivers were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
  • That same evening, another DUI suspect was arrested after reportedly driving on sidewalks and through yards, nearly striking parked cars and cyclists. The vehicle was stopped at Olive Avenue and Terracina Boulevard. The driver injured his head after falling while exiting the car and was treated before being booked.

That night, officers also responded to an armed robbery at Circle K, 1325 Brookside Ave., where a suspect brandished a handgun and demanded cash after pretending to purchase merchandise. He fled on foot before officers arrived.
