The six-week Police Education and Community Engagement program aims to build trust and strengthen ties between officers and the community.

The Redlands Police Department is opening registration for its fall Police Education and Community Engagement (PEACE) academy, a free six-week course designed to strengthen ties between law enforcement and the community.

The program, formerly known as the Citizens Academy, will run Friday evenings from Sept. 12 through Oct. 17 at the Joslyn Center, 21 Grant St. Classes are scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m. and will be moderated by retired Redlands police Cpl. Rick Strobaugh.

Participants will hear from officers across the department about its structure, operations and daily responsibilities. Program topics include:

  • Mission of the RPD
  • Basic Law Enforcement
  • Traffic Laws
  • Investigations
  • Communicaitons
  • Patrol Operations
  • Disaster Awareness

The program also offers a chance to join officers on a patrol ride-along.

Applicants must live or work in Redlands, be at least 16 years old and have no criminal record. Registration is available at cityofredlands.org/rpd_peace_academy
