REDLANDS, Calif. — Redlands police responded to a series of incidents in late November and early December, including a rollover crash, a DUI arrest, a commercial burglary and multiple robbery investigations, according to a weekly update from the department.
Early Saturday morning, Nov. 29, officers stopped a black Mercedes on Orange Street that was reportedly involved in two downtown robberies in October. The driver, who was on probation, was arrested after officers found clothing in the car that matched what one of the suspects wore in the earlier robberies. Police said they collected additional evidence and that the investigations are ongoing.
Police also are investigating a commercial burglary at Eureka Burger, 345 W. Pearl Ave., reported Thursday morning, Nov. 27. Unknown suspects entered through the roof, cut through a collapsible gate and attempted to access the office but were unsuccessful. Nothing was reported stolen.
Officers are investigating a robbery reported Wednesday evening, Nov. 26, at JCPenney, 10000 Alabama St., where two suspects walked out with a cart of unpaid merchandise. As an employee tried to grab the items while the suspects loaded them into a vehicle trunk, one suspect slammed the trunk lid, striking the employee in the head and causing injuries. The suspects drove off with the merchandise, police said.
Police arrested a man Saturday afternoon, Nov. 29, after witnesses reported he was throwing shoes from the Alabama Street overpass onto Interstate 10. When officers attempted to contact him, the man became combative, ignored commands and reached into his pockets before being taken into custody. Officers found a utility knife in his pocket, according to the update.
A passenger was taken to the hospital with minor injuries after a vehicle rolled over and hit a Southern California Edison power pole in the 11600 block of Nevada Street on Wednesday evening, Dec. 3. The pole sustained minor damage and Edison crews inspected it, police said.
On Tuesday evening, Dec. 2, officers arrested a driver on suspicion of DUI and hit-and-run after she struck two parked vehicles and a stop sign near Orange Street and Colton Avenue. Police said the woman was found passed out behind the wheel a short distance from the crash.
