REDLANDS, Calif. — A 19-year-old Redlands man was arrested Wednesday, Oct. 15, on suspicion of invasion of privacy after he was caught using his cellphone to record a woman in the restroom of a business on East Citrus Avenue, according to the Redlands Police Department.

Police said the woman discovered the man recording her and alerted her husband, who found the suspect hiding in the men’s restroom and confronted him after calling authorities. The suspect fled as officers arrived but was captured following a short foot pursuit.

During questioning, the man reportedly admitted to the crime and provided the passcode to his cellphone. Investigators said they found additional videos showing women filmed in other local restrooms.

Mother arrested after child found wandering alone

In a separate case that same afternoon, officers arrested a woman on suspicion of child endangerment after a 3-year-old girl was found wandering alone on Tennessee Street near San Mateo Street.

Police said the mother initially claimed she had briefly left the child to go to the grocery store, but later admitted she had gone to work in another city, leaving the child unattended for several hours. Investigators learned that Child and Family Services already had an open neglect case involving another child in the same household.

Teen arrested in marijuana delivery carjacking

Police also arrested a 14-year-old Highland boy Oct. 15 on suspicion of carjacking a marijuana dispensary delivery driver the previous day in the 300 block of Emerald Avenue.

The suspect allegedly jumped into the driver’s vehicle through an open passenger window, assaulted her, forced her out, and drove off. San Bernardino Police located the vehicle the next morning and detained several people, including the teen matching the description of the carjacker.

Vons manager cited in alcohol sting

On Sunday, Oct. 12, a manager at Vons, 522 Orange St., was cited for furnishing alcohol to a minor after selling beer to an underage decoy during an enforcement operation.

Police said the employee checked the identification, which showed the decoy was underage, before completing the sale. The employee was cited and released at the scene.

Collisions send several to the hospital

Other incidents from the week included a two-vehicle head-on collision Saturday morning, Oct. 11, on San Timoteo Canyon Road at Smiley Boulevard that sent one person to the hospital with broken bones, and a motorcycle crash later that day on Texas Street at San Bernardino Avenue that injured two people.

Road rage assault under investigation

Police also investigated a road rage assault Friday, Oct. 10, after a man was assaulted in a parking lot after pulling over to check for damage.

The victim told officers he was traveling east on the Interstate 10 transition road between Alabama and Tennessee streets when he said he cut off another driver. The victim continued east while the other driver followed him and eventually both drivers pulled into the parking lot at 560 W. Stuart Ave. As the victim exited his vehicle to check for possible damage, the other driver assaulted him, causing injuries, before fleeing the scene, police said.

The incident is under investigation.
