Police say Dimas Omar Montoya used his neighbors’ internet to trade more than 1,300 images of child pornography across messaging apps before detectives traced the activity back to him.
REDLANDS, Calif. — Redlands police arrested a 30-year-old man Wednesday after an investigation uncovered more than 1,300 images of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) on his social media and messaging accounts, according to a new release from city spokesperson Carl Baker.
Dimas Omar Montoya was taken into custody at his residence in the 100 block of West Colton Avenue following a search warrant executed Wednesday morning. Detectives launched the investigation after receiving a CyberTip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, Baker said.
Police reported finding 1,312 CSAM images across Montoya’s Kik, X, and Google accounts. Although the tip initially pointed to Montoya’s neighbors, detectives determined Montoya had been using the neighbors’ WiFi to trade images through the apps, clearing them of involvement, according to the city’s statement.
Montoya is being held at the Central Detention Center in San Bernardino on $30,000 bail.
Authorities urge anyone with information about Montoya or the investigation to contact Detective Dale Peters at dpeters@redlandspolice.org or call the Redlands Police Department Investigations Bureau at (909) 798-7659.
The investigation is part of a broader operation led by the Internet Crimes Against Children regional task force, which includes law enforcement agencies from San Bernardino, Los Angeles, Orange, Ventura, and Santa Barbara counties.
