Brittin sisters lead Riverside City College entries in Bakersfield regional meet
Sara and Stephanie Brittin graduated from two different Redlands high schools, but they will compete together with their Riverside City College teammates at the California Community Colleges Southern Regional prelims set for Saturday, May 2, in Bakersfield.
Sara, a graduate of Orangewood High School, will compete in the 100 meters and the javelin throw. Stephanie, a Redlands High graduate, will compete in the 100 meters, long jump and triple jump for RCC.
The two sophomores have been major contributors to the Tigers’ women’s team all season. RCC won both the men’s and women’s divisions at the meet.
At the Orange Empire Conference finals on April 24, hosted by RCC, Sara won the javelin competition with a throw of 121 feet, 6 inches, well shy of her personal best of 129 feet, 6 inches. Earlier in the meet, she finished third in the 100 meters in 12.43. She also played volleyball for the Tigers.
Stephanie took fourth in the 100 meters in 12.62, then finished second in the long jump at 17 feet, 9 inches and fourth in the triple jump at 36 feet, 4 inches. She also placed sixth in the 100-meter hurdles.
At the Citrus Belt League finals in 2024, Stephanie was fourth in the long jump at 16 feet, 2 inches and won the triple jump at 34 feet, 6 inches after jumping 34 feet, 11 inches in the preliminary meet.
The Southern Regional finals are set for May 9 at Bakersfield College.
