REDLANDS, Calif. — The Redlands Fire Department is recognizing the retirement of Capt. Don Trujillo after 31 years of service to the community.

In a March 21 announcement, the department praised Trujillo as a longtime leader known for his steady presence, compassion and commitment to others. Officials said he served not only as a firefighter and captain, but also as a trusted figure within the department and the broader community.

Trujillo, a longtime Redlands resident, built deep ties throughout the city during his career. Colleagues noted his reputation for knowing residents across the community — earning him the nickname “The Mayor.”

The department also highlighted Trujillo’s leadership style, describing it as grounded in humility, kindness and a focus on putting others first.

Fire officials thanked Trujillo for his decades of service and lasting impact on the department and the city.

"Your legacy will continue to be felt throughout this department and this community," the department said in a post on social media.

He is retiring alongside his wife, Diana, and family, with the department wishing him a “happy, healthy and well-deserved retirement.”
